Contractors are required to conduct a preliminary survey to investigate the presence or absence of asbestos in accordance with the law, regardless of the scale of the project or the contract amount, when performing demolition or renovation work on buildings and structures. Furthermore, the preliminary survey for buildings must be conducted by a registered asbestos-containing building materials investigator or a member of the Japan Asbestos Survey and Diagnosis Association.
